Adrian Hetherington has Cracking Icebreaker.
In the first Forest Stage Rally of 2016, Donaghmore driver Adrian Heatherington, co-driven by Aughnacloy’s Cathal Mulgrew, took a fantastic fourth place overall, and top two-wheel-drive on the Mid-Antrim Motor Club Icebreaker Rally. The event was won by rally legend Kenny McKinstry in one of his self prepared 4WD Subaru Impreza S14s, finishing 41 seconds ahead of the O’Briens, Patrick and Stephen from Omagh in their Mitsubishi Evo VI.
The event was held in the Slieveanorra Forest complex in Co Antrim, and had one long and one short special stage tackled three times each. With his new colour scheme, Adrian was on the pace in his Escort Mk2 from the word go, setting top 5 times all day, and setting second fastest time on the second run over the long forest.
Kenny McKinstry, partnered by fellow Banbridge man Kenny Hull, was fastest on three tests and second on two others. Only six and a half seconds separated the next three drivers, so Adrian Hetherinton was really mixing it up with much faster 4WD machinery in his Mk2 Escort. The event saw a lot of drivers go off the road, and at the end of the day, only eighteen cars were still running.
